The Right to Health in the UNCRPD
IF would like to use this opportunity of the World Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Day, which is celebrated each year on October 25th, to bring attention to the rights of persons with disabilities as laid out in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD). As the COVID-19 pandemic has renewed the urgency of increasing awareness of article 25 of the UNCRPD which addresses the topic of health.
It is important that individuals with SBH and their families are aware of their human rights as per article 25 of the UNCRPD when accessing healthcare services. It is equally important for healthcare providers, professionals and policy makers to understand their obligations to the UNCRPD.
