On October 25th 2021, the International Federation for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus together with worldwide members will celebrate the World Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Day 2021 (WSBHD21) under the theme “Unlock Your Rights to Health”. IF facilitates dialogues and exchanges of best practices among IF Member Associations around the world to optimise the dissemination of information and campaigns on digital platforms. Especially for the WSBHD21, IF organises a side event on Communication: ‘From Traditional to Digital - Unlock Your Digital Communication’ to which all Communications Coordinator of Member Associations are exclusively invited.

The first online IF international Conference on multidisciplinary Care for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus taking place from September 14 to 17 2021 was a great success.

On October 10th, IF will celebrate the World Mental Health Day and will join the world to raise awareness on mental illnesses. Supported by WHO, on this international day the world takes the opportunity for global mental health education, to raise awareness and to advocate against social stigma.

On October 1, the world will celebrate the International Day of Older Persons. This day was designated by the United Nations General Assembly (by resolution 45/106) on 14 December 1990. On this day, IF takes this opportunity to raise awareness on ageing with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus, the barriers older persons with SBH can face and the need for lifting these barriers.

The International Federation for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (IF) is an active member of the Coalition to Protect The Right to Family Life for All Children. In 2019 the Coalition published a statement on the right to family of children without parental care.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to have a profound impact on communities across the world and individuals with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus (SBH) and their families have seen pre-existing barriers to full societal inclusion increase and new challenges emerge.

Cato Lie is the new President of IF - The International Federation for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus. He succeeds the former president Elena Zappoli from the Asociación para Espina Bifida e Hidrocefalia (APEBI) in Argentina.
