Folic acid distribution in schools in Uganda
12 March 2019 // Last week an important meeting was held in Uganda, hosted by the national spina bifida association (SHA-U), partner of IF and really active in organizing trainings and prevention initiatives.
During the meeting, held on the 7th of March, young people and caregivers were trained in organisational management by a lecturer from the Uganda Management Institute. The meeting also featured updates for the next World Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Day, with the participation of the senior nutritionist at the Ministry of Health of Uganda.
The most important update from the meeting was that, thanks to the advocacy activity of SHA-U, girls of childbearing age in Uganda can now receive folic acid in school. It was such great news to receive just one day before the International Women’s Day. Girls of 15 districts in Uganda received their folic acid last week already, and we can’t be more thankful to our partner organisation SHA-U which, with the support of Norad and RHF, made all of this happen!
