GET READY FOR THE INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY 2022!
As the International Youth Day is approaching fast, we as the IF International Youth Group SBH would like to invite all young people with SBH around the world to celebrate this day with us.
The International Youth Day is an annual awareness day designated by the United Nations on August 12. The day is seen as an opportunity for governments, organisations and individuals to focus their attention on various issues faced by young people around the world.
On this occasion, IF International Youth Group SBH will join the world to raise awareness on one of current youth issues around the world: Independent Living.
Independent living is the rights of persons with disabilities, which was set out in Article 19 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD). Independent living is especially important for the youth as they are facing transition from adolescence to adulthood. However, we realise the many people, including youth with SBH are unaware of this topic. Moreover, many have wrong assumptions about the concept of independent living.
Considering this, the topic of independence living has also been chosen as one of the main themes of the IF International Youth Group SBH to focus this year.
To kick off the campaign, we want to challenge the whole youth community with SBH to tell us what independent living means to you, share with us your own story of independence and help us increase awareness of independent living within the SBH community.
This is also a great opportunity to share with the world what it has been like for youth with SBH. You can read the invitation letter from the chairperson Cillian Dunne HERE.
The IF International Youth Group SBH designed the IF International Youth Day toolkit where you can find more information about this day and how you can participate in this year’s challenge together with us.
