International Day of Older Persons 2025 – Celebrating Ageing with SBH

On October 1, the IF Working Group on Ageing with SBH highlighted the experiences of ageing with SBH emphasizing empowerment, independence, and inclusion across all life stages. Speakers shared inspiring stories of perseverance, dreams, and creativity, showing that with support and determination, people with SBH can lead meaningful, fulfilling lives.

Join us to celebrate the International Day of Older Persons 2025

Every year on 1 October, the world comes together to celebrate the International Day of Older Persons, first proclaimed by the United Nations in 1990. This day is dedicated to honouring the contributions of older individuals and addressing the challenges they face across the globe.

IF launched the report “Ageing with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus - Finding from Online Focus Group Discussions”. The report is a result of Focus Group Discussions during [month] 2021 with individuals with SBH.

IF Statement on Ageing with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus

IF has published a statement on ageing with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (SBH).  Improvements in treatment and care means that there is a growing population of older people with SBH. The IF Working Group on Ageing with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus has been exploring the needs and challenges faced by individuals with lived experiences of ageing with SBH. 

IF International Day of Older Persons

On October 1, the world will celebrate the International Day of Older Persons. This day was designated by the United Nations General Assembly (by resolution 45/106) on 14 December 1990. On this day, IF takes this opportunity to raise awareness on ageing with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus, the barriers older persons with SBH can face and the need for lifting these barriers.

The Roadmap for the European Disability Rights Strategy 2021-2030 has been published.

IF will contribute to the consultation on the roadmap for the European Disability Strategy 2021-2030 and urges its European members to do the same.

Launch IF Report on Ageing with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus

On the United Nations International Day of Older People, IF raises awareness on the rights and needs of people ageing with spina bifida and hydrocephalus.
