The Coalition in Support of the WHA Rare Diseases Resolution

A Coalition in Support of the draft WHA Rare Diseases Resolution
IF has recently joined the Rare Diseases International Coalition in support of the adoption of the WHA Resolution on Rare Diseases, which will be discussed at the World Health Assembly (WHA) in May 2025.
This Coalition represents an inclusive and dynamic network of organizations and individuals united by the commitment to strengthening the impact of this important resolution and continuing to advocate for its adoption.
Led by Egypt and Spain, the Resolution has already gained strong support, with 26 Member States co-sponsoring it and 224 global organizations joining the Coalition. This growing consensus reflects the increasing recognition of rare diseases as a global health priority.
A crucial milestone was reached on February 10, 2025, when the 156th WHO Executive Board officially recommended the adoption of the Resolution. This marks the first significant step towards securing the approval of the WHA Resolution on Rare Diseases and the Global Action Plan (GAP) at the 78th World Health Assembly. The adoption of this Resolution would represent a historic step forward for millions of people living with rare diseases worldwide, including spina bifida and hydrocephalus. IF continues its active partnership to ensure that the needs of the global SBH community are adequately represented from its adoption to implementation.
