The European Commission is reviewing and strengthening the EU Strategy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, looking ahead to 2030. This is a unique opportunity for persons with disabilities, their families, and organisations like ours to shape the policies that affect our lives.
IF welcomes the increased scope of the strategy. Many of the recommendations, which IF had laid out in the beginning of 2020 in the IF publication titled ‘Towards a new European Disability Strategy for 2021-2030’, have been incorporated into the strategy. However, challenges do remain both regarding what has been left out from the strategy and in the implementation of that which has been included.
For this second phase of the strategy, IF has submitted its own response to the consultation, highlighting priorities such as health and lifelong care, independent living and community-based services, accessibility, and intersectional inclusion for children, women, older persons, migrants, and persons living with rare or complex health conditions.
You can read more about IF’s analysis and recommendations for the new strategy in IF’s Position Statement.
Your voice matters!
You can respond until February 6 to the consultation as an individual, an organisation, or both. Here’s how:
- Navigate to the main page of the Public Consultation on ‘Enhancing the Strategy for the rights of persons with disabilities up to 2030’ and
- Complete the online questionnaire and/or
- Provide Feedback to the Call for Evidence (short text). You can also upload a position paper or upload IF’s Position available here.
A broad and engaged response will help shape the next phase of the EU Disability Strategy and send a clear message that the rights of persons with disabilities must be strengthened.
