IF joined the #ZeroCon24
IF at the Zero Project Conference 2024
On February 23, IF joined the #ZeroCon24Â in its mission to ensure zero barriers towards education.
When discussing inclusion and persons with disabilities one must begin with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The general principles of the convention are outlined in article 3 and include but are not limited to respect for individual autonomy, non-discrimination, full and effective participation and inclusion in society, equality of opportunity as well as respect for differences of persons with disabilities as part of human diversity and humanity. These principles must be at the heart of everything and anything that has to do with disability.Â
By approaching inclusive education from a strong-rights based perspective we avoid inadvertently framing students with disabilities as a challenge to be solved. But rather as part of humanity’s natural diversity and therefore, a natural part of any educational institution or system.Â
At the last day of the #ZeroCon24 IF’s Secretary General Dr Sylvia Roozen provided an Impulse Statement and moderated a session whereby Zero Project Awardees among others focussed on proven solutions that support disabled individuals in remote areas, focusing on early disorder detection and assistive devices.
Session title: Disseminating affordable educational programmes and technology.
Session description: Discover programmes that outline how to scale the enrolment of children with disabilities, facilitate low-cost therapy and education for remote children, provide accessible learning models, and develop UNICEF-backed technology-rollouts.
The session is broadcasted from the United Nations Office in Vienna, Austria and can be watched here: https://www.youtube.com/live/ndHYdkT–3I?feature=sharedhttps://lnkd.in/etasEiaH
