IF joins EDF statement on passengers’ rights

16 September 2019

16 September 2019 // The European Union (EU) is currently reviewing the Rail Passenger’s Rights Regulation which means that it is the moment to remind the EU institutions and decision makers what passengers with disabilities need: better rights for passengers with disabilities.

For this reason, the European Disability Forum (EDF) has developed a joint statement that IF has also signed. This statement is addressed to all EU leaders. One of the key issues is the reduction of the period of pre-notification for people with reduced mobility, from 48 to 2 hours, which would allow them to have more freedom to travel by train.

We demand that:

  • EU leaders don’t exclude persons with reduced mobility from accessing more environmentally sustainable options.
  • EU Member States support the proposed reduction of pre-notification for assistance to a maximum of 2 hours.

You can find the joint statement on the EDF website, together with testimonies from people with disabilities who have experienced discrimination when travelling by train.Â
