BANGLADESH (BPKS)
Description
Bangladesh Protibandhi Kallyan Somity (BPKS) established in 1985 with the initiative of Mr. Abdus Sattar Dulal. It envisions that all Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) live with happiness, freedom and dignity in a barrier-free family and society, and are able to contribute equally to their own and universal development. BPKS is governed democratically by boards called ‘National Council (NC)’ constituted of 21-31 representatives with disabilities and ‘National Executive Council (NEC)’ is constituted of 7 members’ representatives with disabilities elected for 3 years. BPKS managing from the Complex (headquarter) of 60 decimals of land with 8 storied building facilities including office, conference, seminar, training and accommodation. It is located 3.5 kilometers east direction of the International Airport of Dhaka. It has 32 staff including 60% are PwDs at headquarters.
BPKS implemented the programs in 43 districts of Bangladesh, resulting in a demonstrable improvement in the lives of PwDs in Bangladesh and in the world too. The Millions of PwDs directly benefited by BPKS through empowerment, skills, employment, accessible sanitary latrines and tube well, humanitarian supports, education, health and assistive device, 550,000 stakeholders and professionals from different sectors received knowledge and training and hundreds of events organized on policy and development issues.
