IF Webinar: Mental Health and Wellbeing in the Global SBH Community

8 October 2026
Online

Lived experiences heard. Real voices. Real change.

How does mental health change throughout life when living with spina bifida and hydrocephalus (SBH)? To mark the International Day of Older Persons and World Mental Health Day, the IF International Adult Working Group SBH invites the global SBH community to a conversation about mental wellbeing across the lifespan.

Living with SBH is a lifelong experience, and mental health can be influenced by different stages of life, changing circumstances, healthcare experiences, relationships, independence, ageing and access to support.

This webinar will bring together voices from the IF Youth Group and Adult Working Group to share personal experiences, reflect on changes across different life stages and discuss what can help people protect and strengthen their mental wellbeing.

The conversation will also connect with the 2026 World Mental Health Day theme, “Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change”, highlighting the importance of listening to lived experience and ensuring that those experiences help shape the support, services and decisions that affect people’s lives.

What to expect

  • Personal stories and lived experiences of mental health and wellbeing with SBH
  • Reflections on mental health across different stages of life
  • Experiences of finding or struggling to find appropriate support
  • Practical advice and strategies that have helped speakers
  • Perspectives from both younger and older members of the SBH community
  • An opportunity to share questions, experiences and ideas for change

The webinar will also highlight the Living with SBH – Stories of Lived Experiences catalogue developed by the IF International Adult Working Group SBH, bringing together real stories and experiences from people living with SBH.
