This is a joint webinar series on spinal dysraphisms between ERN eUROGEN, OMNI-NET Ukraine, & the International Federation for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (IFSBH). This session is also supported by ERN ITHACA and is eligible for EACCME accreditation. This webinar will be presented by Dr. Gessica Della Bella, specialist in physical and rehabilitation medicine at Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital in Rome, and Dr. Jane Leonard, a paediatrician in neurodisability at Children’s Hospital Ireland in Dublin.
The medical management of spina bifida patients is complex and challenging, but aims to optimise both health and function. Despite agreement that multidisciplinary care is the medical standard for SB patients, more is needed. Instead of managing different clinics in the same visit, the multidisciplinary team allows all consultants to see a patient together, thus promoting communication and learning between them. Children greatly benefit from such multidisciplinary management in high-volume referral centres.
