World Folic Acid Awareness Week Webinar | 06 January 2026

25 November 2025

Every January, the International Federation for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (IF) works with its member organisations, partners, and supporters, to promote the World Folic Acid Awareness Week (WFAAW) as part of the IF Global Prevention Initiative (IFGPI). The aims of the IFGPI are to raise awareness about preventable Neural Tube Defects (NTDs), such as Spina Bifida, through folic acid supplements, staple foods fortified with folic acid, or foods rich in folate, the natural form of folic acid.

This year the WFAAW week will be celebrated from 5 to 11 January 2026. IF is organising a webinar entitled ‘Partnering for impact: Advancing Folic Acid Food Fortification in Latin America’.

  • Date: 6 January 2026
  • Time: 5PM CET
  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Location: Zoom Webinar
  • Language: Spanish (translation English available)
  • Registration: https://bit.ly/WFAAW26

The webinar aims to strengthen collaboration among governments, international agencies, researchers, civil society, and the private sector to advance folic acid food fortification in Latin America.

It will:

  • Highlight successful regional initiatives and policies that have reduced neural tube defects (NTDs);
  • Present new data and evidence gaps to guide future fortification and surveillance efforts;
  • Elevate the voices of families and advocacy networks, including RELAEBHI, in shaping inclusive nutrition strategies;
  • Foster cross-regional partnerships between Latin America, Europe, and global health actors to ensure every pregnancy is protected by adequate folic acid intake.

Participation is free, but registration is required.
