IF Statement on Multidisciplinary Care
From 14 to 17 September 2021 the International Federation for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (IF) held a conference on multidisciplinary care.
Multidisciplinary care (MDC) for persons with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (SBH) is essential in order to achieve ‘the highest possible standard of health’ (article 25 UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities) for the global SBH community.
At the IF Conference on Multidisciplinary Care for SBH leading healthcare professionals in their fields, researchers in the fields of health and social care, people with lived experiences of SBH, their families as well as young scholars presented on examples of good practices of multidisciplinary care for SBH, the importance of access to these services for people with SBH of all ages.
The IF Statement on Multidisciplinary Care for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus outlines some of the key conclusions from the IF Conference on Multidisciplinary Care for SBH. Highlighting why multidisciplinary care is so important for the health, wellbeing, rights and inclusion of persons with SBH and their families. The benefits to both service providers and users and recommendations to policy makers, service providers and healthcare professionals to advance the development of and access to multidisciplinary care for SBH.
IF calls on all relevant stakeholders, from policy makers, service providers, health and social care professionals to join the SBH community in advocating for access to quality integrated multidisciplinary care.
